process.

i've had basically no idea what to do with my book from the beginning. i'm terrible at sticking with an idea, and thus far i've bounced between bringing home a fish to doing something involving my sister's wedding. linda told me today that it was just a really bad overall idea, and that i need to start over. fair enough. though, i was already planning on doing that anyways, because i knew that with projects i never start with the idea i'm going to end with. i never brainstormed or seriously thought about what i was going to do. buuuuut last night i was thinking about legitimate ideas, and was considering doing something involving the photo process when my roommate suggested that i model the book after the camera and have the book be chronicling the actual experience. my book's going to be modeled after my camera, and then have a scroll of pictures ( of the event... ) to be pulled out from the camera.

blogger, it's been a while.
we just finished our treehouse project and are now being introduced to the next.
the book project, woot.
we're supposed to chronicle a quick event in which time passes (?) in a book.
it's more about the binding i guess, i'm stillllllll unsure.
but as with all the projects in this class, the directions become increasingly clearer the further into it we get.
it's kind of frustrating that everything we do is so initially obscure.
the wayfinding project, for example, was almost completely undefined.
but, spring break is soon which means that we're 75% done with think & make. meh.

wayfinding.

meet aqua: a second semester transfer student, majoring in painting at the university of kansas, in need of a paintbrush. she's currently at the kansas union bookstore, trying to 'wayfind' her way to one.

once you walk into the union, you'll be overwhelmed with the lack of organization present. nothing seems to be in a meaningful place. everything is scattered, making it abnormally hard to find whatever it may be that you're looking for.

this is the predicament that aqua has suddenly found herself in. as she searches for the single paintbrush she so urgently needs, she runs into many different problems. she doesn't need a new backpack. she doesn't need a new computer. she doesn't need any unhealthy college-grade snacks. she needs a paintbrush, and only a paintbrush.

however, this seems to be the only item notttt present in the union.  after aimlessly wandering around for a few minutes, she succumbs to the fact that she isn't going to find these paintbrushes on her own. she looks around for some signage, maybe, given the fact that there aren't any salespeople around to help her locate one.

after looking around at the walls and the floors, she looks up at the ceiling to see a hanging sign that indicates that the "art and design supplies are here." she heads on over there in hopes that paintbrushes would indeed be with the art and design supplies. but the union is kind of a clusterfuck, so she's still mildly doubtful.

she walks over there, and after still a bit of wandering, finds the small section dedicated to the paintbrushes, pushed up against a wall, hidden by shelves and cabinets.

so. end hypothetical, enter reality. how could aqua's wayfinding experience be bettered? with more prominent, relevant and detailed signage, the union could be much better organized. step one: paintbrushes. the rest of the union will have to be managed later.

title

our group's new word is ABSENT. hence the 'absent' title.
tahahhahaha

definition:
absent

— adj
1. away or not present
2. lacking; missing
3. inattentive; absent-minded

— vb
4. ( tr ) to remove (oneself) or keep away

and we decided that this would be an appropriately eerie location to represent it:

and thanks to nate for the crazy amazing photos!

i'd say it's a pretty 'removed, inattentive, absent-minded' area appropriate for keeping one away?

word CHANGE

i decided to change my word. we're now CHANGING to CHANGE.
ahahahah irony, i love it.
i wasn't coming up with too many good 'dribble' ideas.
and i had a ton for change, so i changed :)

to make the form, nature, content, future course, etc., of(something) different from what it is or from what it wouldbe if left alone: to change one's nameto change one'sopinion; to change the course of history.
